Some signs are good to run into.

The dog has already found something worth stopping for. For the rest of us, these walls and small street signs offer a nudge, a laugh, or a few words worth taking home.

A brown dog stands with its front paws on a yellow outdoor cabinet filled with sticks beneath a Doggie Stick Library sign.

A yellow cabinet displays rows of sticks for one very interested visitor. Finally, a library where chewing the books makes sense.

Sticks are very dangerous for dogs. The injuries I have seen over the years are heartbreaking. I know many people think this is what you should throw for a dog. A stick can get stuck, splinter in the mouth and or pieces be injested causing in many cases death. There are so many inexpensive things you can throw for a dog. I am not a killjoy but if you could see what a seemingly innocent activity can do to your treasured and loved pet don’t throw a stick. A lovely funny photo but there is a sting in the tail.

      1. He is actually correct. We had to have a huge splinter removed from one of our dog’s throat. Thinking YOU are the wanker.

    2. Anything can be dangerous for any living creature… Even the most unassuming of things. Don’t tell other people they shouldn’t do things just because a few animals got hurt by them. Out of the billions of dogs in the world there’s probably only a small fraction who have been hurt by sticks. Just as many have probably choked on tennis balls or other inexpensive alternatives…
