Privacy & Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
This Privacy & Cookie Policy explains how Street Art Utopia collects, uses, stores and shares information when you visit streetartutopia.com, subscribe, comment, interact with artwork or contact us.
Who we are
Street Art Utopia is an independent art publication operated by Vidar Egnér in Stockholm, Sweden.
For privacy questions, requests or concerns, contact us at streetartutopia@gmail.com.
Information we collect
The information collected depends on how you use the site.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, our hosting, security, analytics and advertising services may receive technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, timestamps and interactions with the site.
We use this information to deliver the site, protect it against abuse, understand how it is used, improve its performance and measure content and advertising.
Comments
If you leave a comment, we collect the information entered in the comment form, including your name, email address, optional website, comment and any optional image or video link. We also collect your IP address and browser user-agent information for security and spam detection.
Your name, comment, optional website and any media link you submit may be displayed publicly. Your email address is not displayed publicly. Comments may remain published until they are removed by us or following a valid request.
Comments are checked by Akismet, an anti-spam service operated by Automattic. Akismet processes the information necessary to detect spam and abusive submissions. You can read the Akismet Privacy Policy.
An anonymized value created from your email address may be sent to Gravatar to determine whether you have a profile image. If your comment is approved, that profile image may appear publicly beside your comment. Gravatar is operated by Automattic and covered by the Automattic Privacy Policy.
Newsletter subscriptions
If you subscribe to new posts or comment notifications, your email address and subscription choices are processed through WordPress.com and Jetpack, services operated by Automattic. The information is used to deliver the emails you requested and manage your subscription.
You can unsubscribe using the link in any subscription email. Automattic’s handling of subscriber information is described in its Privacy Policy.
Contact, submissions and removal requests
If you email us, submit artwork, request a correction or removal, or contact us through a social platform, we receive the information you choose to provide. This may include your name, email address, social-media username, photographs, artwork information, credits and the content of your message.
We use this information to respond, evaluate submissions, verify credits, handle permissions and publish material where appropriate. We retain correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to manage the request, document permissions, protect legal rights or meet applicable obligations.
Google sign-in
Where offered, you may choose to use Sign in with Google when interacting with the site. Google may process information about your device, account and use of the sign-in service. Street Art Utopia may receive basic account information that you authorize Google to provide. Using this option is voluntary and is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Loves, Likes, Favorites and site preferences
Street Art Utopia includes features that let visitors Love artwork, Like comments, save Favorites and choose between light and dark mode.
Favorites are normally stored only in your browser using local storage. No account, name or email address is required. Your saved Favorites remain in that browser until you remove them, clear the collection or clear your browser’s stored site data.
Your light or dark mode preference is also stored locally in your browser so that the site can remember your choice.
When you Love artwork or Like a comment, a first-party identifier may be stored in a cookie named uto_like_id. It is used to recognize that browser and prevent duplicate voting. The cookie normally expires after one year.
The site stores pseudonymous hashed voting identifiers rather than the raw identifier. These records are used for duplicate protection and abuse prevention and are normally removed after approximately 400 days. Aggregate Love and Like totals may remain after the pseudonymous voting record has been deleted.
Shared Favorites collections
If you actively create a shareable Favorites link, the site stores a compact list of the selected artwork identifiers and a protected hash of the collection token. It does not add your name or email address to the collection.
Anyone who has the unique link can view the shared collection, so you should treat the link as shareable rather than private. Shared collection records expire automatically after 12 months. Opening a collection does not extend its expiry date.
Cookies and local storage
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. Local storage is a similar browser feature used to remember information on your device.
Street Art Utopia uses necessary and functional storage to operate requested features, remember privacy choices, provide security, prevent duplicate voting, retain Favorites and remember your selected color theme.
Analytics and advertising providers may use additional cookies or similar technologies. Where consent is required, these technologies are controlled through Google’s consent management platform.
You can accept, reject or change your choices at any time by selecting Privacy and cookie settings at the bottom of the site. You can also delete or block cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Blocking functional storage may prevent Favorites, theme preferences, Loves or other features from working as expected.
Advertising and Google AdSense
Street Art Utopia uses Google AdSense to display and measure advertising. Google and other advertising vendors may use cookies, IP addresses, web beacons or similar identifiers to select, deliver, limit and measure ads.
Depending on your location and privacy choices, ads may be personalized using information about visits to this and other websites, or they may be non-personalized and based on contextual or limited information. Advertising partners may also measure ad performance and help detect fraud and abuse.
You can learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can manage Google advertising preferences through My Ad Center and manage consent for this site through the Privacy and cookie settings link in the footer.
The advertising vendors available for a particular visitor may vary. Current vendor information and privacy choices are available through Google’s consent interface.
Analytics and site measurement
We use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Jetpack Stats to understand how visitors find and use the site. Depending on the service and your consent choices, this may include page views, approximate location, device and browser information, referring pages, engagement with content and interactions with site features.
We use these measurements to improve site performance, navigation, editorial decisions and the visitor experience. Where required by applicable law, analytics storage is activated only after consent.
Google’s processing is described in the Google Privacy Policy. Information about WordPress.com, Jetpack and related Automattic services is available in the Automattic Privacy Policy.
Embedded content and external links
Articles may contain links to or embedded material from other websites and services, including artists’ websites, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Google Maps and other publications.
Embedded content can behave as if you visited the external website directly. The provider may collect data, use cookies, track interaction with the embedded material or associate it with an account if you are logged in to that service. External sites have their own privacy practices, and Street Art Utopia does not control them.
Why we process information
Depending on the feature and applicable law, we process information on one or more of the following grounds:
- Consent, including optional analytics, personalized advertising, newsletter subscriptions and other processing where consent is required.
- Legitimate interests, including operating and improving the publication, protecting the site, preventing fraud and spam, measuring aggregate engagement and responding to correspondence.
- Providing a service you requested, such as publishing a comment, saving a preference, creating a shared Favorites link or sending a requested subscription email.
- Legal obligations and legal claims, where information must be retained or disclosed under applicable law or is needed to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
You may withdraw consent at any time through the site’s privacy settings or by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before consent was withdrawn.
Who receives information
Information may be processed by service providers that help us host, secure, analyze, monetize and operate the site. These include Automattic and its WordPress.com, Jetpack, Akismet and Gravatar services; Google and its advertising, analytics, consent and sign-in services; and advertising partners selected through Google’s systems.
We may also disclose information when required by law, in response to a valid legal request, to protect the rights or safety of visitors and the site, or in connection with a transfer of the publication or its assets.
We do not publish your comment email address and do not sell lists of visitor names or email addresses.
International processing
Some providers operate internationally and may process information outside Sweden or the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where required, such processing is handled under the provider’s contractual and legal transfer safeguards. More information is available in the privacy documentation of Google and Automattic linked above.
How long information is retained
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to security, technical and legal requirements.
- Published comments and their metadata may remain until the comment is removed.
- Newsletter information is retained until you unsubscribe or the subscription is otherwise removed.
- Favorites and theme preferences stored locally remain until you remove them or clear your browser data.
- Shared Favorites collections expire after 12 months.
- Pseudonymous Love and Like identifiers are normally retained for no more than approximately 400 days; aggregate totals may remain.
- Spam-detection, hosting, analytics and advertising information is retained according to the applicable provider’s settings and retention rules.
- Correspondence and submission records are retained as long as needed to answer the request, document permissions, resolve disputes or meet legal obligations.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live and the applicable law, you may have the right to request access to personal data about you, request correction or deletion, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, and receive certain information in a portable format.
You may also have rights relating to targeted advertising and the use of cookies. These choices can be managed through Privacy and cookie settings at the bottom of the site.
To make a request, email streetartutopia@gmail.com. We may need to verify that the request relates to you before providing, changing or deleting information.
If you are in Sweden or the European Economic Area, you may also lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection, Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY), or with the supervisory authority in your country.
Children’s privacy
Street Art Utopia is a general-audience publication and is not directed specifically at children. We do not knowingly request personal information from children who are not legally able to provide it. If you believe a child has submitted personal information inappropriately, please contact us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site, its services or applicable requirements change. The date at the top of the page shows when the policy was most recently updated. Material changes may also be highlighted on the site where appropriate.
