Side-by-side photographs of Edoardo Ettorre’s giant guitarist on a building in Rogliano and David Zinn’s tiny chalk mouse with a book in a hammock between bricks in Laguna Beach.

Street art in a world of its own

A guitarist checks his strings while a tiny reader settles into a hammock. These eight street artworks make room for private projects and unhurried pauses, from a book on the pavement to a view across the water.

🎸 “U Chitarraru” — By Edoardo Ettorre in Rogliano, Italy 🇮🇹

A man checks the tuning pegs, with sheet music and a quill on the table beside him. Ettorre’s guitarist is Vincenzo Gallo, the Rogliano poet known as U Chitarraru. The mural is on Piazza Buffone, the town’s main square, CosenzaOk reported.

💡 Story Fact: For Gulìa Urbana, Ettorre continued a scene painted by Salvatore Diana in 1991: the poet has finished a love letter and is getting ready to turn it into a song.

A giant painted woman cuts red fabric with scissors in a sunlit window illusion on a Frauenfeld building, with a person standing below for scale.

✂️ “Cut Through History” — By Fabian Bane Florin in Frauenfeld, Switzerland 🇨🇭

She holds the red fabric steady and works the scissors, while a real person below barely reaches the painted window. The folded cloth spills over the edge of Bane’s illusion.

💡 Building Fact: The building was once a tailoring shop. Bane chose the seamstress for the first Street Art Festival Frauenfeld as a nod to that history.

Cheone’s painted man holds a yellow pencil toward a smiling sun drawn across the road and the wall opposite, creating a perspective illusion.

✏️ “Drawing a Sun” — By Cosimo Cheone Caiffa in Italy 🇮🇹

The face and hand are carefully rendered; the smiling sun is a much quicker job. Cheone lines up the pencil with the buildings across the road, making the whole street look like the man’s sketchbook.

🖌️ “Roller Crosswalk” — By Cosimo Cheone Caiffa in Trezzano sul Naviglio, Italy 🇮🇹

Cheone’s painter has a job that extends beyond his wall. The roller meets a real crosswalk stripe, and an ordinary road marking looks like unfinished work.
