A little more light in the day

Kenny Random’s man in a hat takes a whole rainbow along for the walk, while HIJACK’s painter pastes fresh green over an old fence. Eight works with color, greenery and a little hope for better days.

🕊️ Positive Light — By Alaniz in Stornara, Italy 🇮🇹

A woman reaches toward white doves and a bright opening painted high on the wall. Alaniz puts bats in the darker half of the scene. In his explanation of Positive Light, he compares the bats to fears that become less threatening when seen differently. The window stands for another way of approaching life. Street Art Cities lists the 2023 mural at Via Annibale Carracci 11.

Jon Foreman arranged beach stones into a circle of color at Freshwater West in 2025. Long spokes stretch over the sand, while the pebbles shift from warm pinks to cool blue and gray. In his post about Sol Colorum, Foreman puts the work at around seven hours.

💡 Nerd Fact: Foreman listens to death metal while making land art. BBC Wales also documented his involvement in the band Plague Father.

🪡 Lace Fence — By DeMakersVan

Flowers and curling patterns run through a chain-link fence beside a curving path. DeMakersVan’s Lace Fence brings lacemaking to industrial fencing.

💡 Nerd Fact: The idea for Lace Fence came from a makeshift repair noticed during a bicycle ride through an industrial area. Powerhouse records that its first version was designed in 2005, while Joep Verhoeven was studying at Design Academy Eindhoven.

🙂 A Smile in the Forest — By Hampton Lumber in Oregon, USA 🇺🇸

This hillside smile was planted in 2011 near Willamina and Grand Ronde for Hampton Lumber. David Hampton created it with forester Dennis Creel. Larch trees turn yellow in autumn to form the face, while Douglas-firs make the darker eyes and mouth.

💡 Nerd Fact: The smile is part of a working timber forest, and David Hampton has said it will probably be harvested in 40 or 50 years. To lay it out, planting crews used a rope to plot the circle and triangulate the positions of the eyes and mouth.
