Two-photo cover: Joe and Max’s painted pavement vortex beside a timber room projecting beyond its narrow stone base.

The round green door belongs to Bag End at the Hobbiton Movie Set. Location scouts found the Alexander family’s sheep farm in 1998, and the set was later rebuilt to remain in place. Hobbiton’s own history says the site now includes 44 reconstructed hobbit holes.
