A driftwood face sculpture beside a seahorse and a spiral made from beach stones.

A rooster fills a corner. A face rests in wood.

Painted illusions meet driftwood sculpture and beach art in these eight photos. A giant rooster fills a concrete corner, a kitten peers through a wall, and pebbles become a seahorse.

๐Ÿš Stone Seahorse โ€” By Beach4Art in North Devon, UK ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

Beach4Art, a family of four, made this pebble seahorse at Sandymere Beach in North Devon. Their own print listing records the original beach arrangement at 2.5 by 1.4 meters. Changes in pebble size and color shape its curved back, narrow snout and curled tail. The map marks where it was made, not a permanent installation.

Eduardo Kobra painted Escadateca in early 2021 on Colรฉgio Serโ€™s Boa Vista campus, at Rua Doutor Josรฉ Aleixo Irmรฃo 301, Sorocaba. The 22-by-11-meter mural turns the schoolโ€™s facade into bookshelves, with a boy climbing a ladder toward the books.

๐Ÿ’ก Nerd Fact: Before painting, Kobra asked people to suggest Brazilian books. He received about 4,000 recommendations, helping shape the selection of titles in the mural, as he explains on his project page.

Revolve by Jon Foreman at Druidston, Wales: curving arms of beach stones fan out from a shared center on wet sand at sunset.

๐ŸŒ€ Revolve โ€” By Jon Foreman in Druidston, Wales, UK ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

Curving rows of beach stones sweep out from a shared center on the wet sand. In Jon Foremanโ€™s Revolve, large dark stones mark the outer ends while smaller pebbles trace the curves toward the middle. Pale stones edge several of the rows, and the sunset reflects across the beach behind them.

๐Ÿ’ก Nerd Fact: Foreman began making land art while at college, drawing on the Pembrokeshire coast where he grew up. In his account of the practice, he describes the eventual loss of his arrangements to tides, wind or human interference as part of the creative process.
