A small addition can change a whole wall.

A branch turns broken plaster into a dove. Two hands appear in a traffic sign, a koala borrows a metal face, and a rocket finds the street named after it. These nine works use a few marks, a simple shape or one well-placed object to change what is already there.

🕊️ Peace Dove — By Pappas Pärlor in Motala, Sweden 🇸🇪

Pappas Pärlor adds a small green bead branch to a patch of missing plaster in Motala. The exposed wall supplies the dove’s body, beak and raised wing. A single added detail completes the bird.

🫶 Heart Hands — By CLET in Paris, France 🇫🇷

The white bar of a no-entry sign becomes two hands meeting around a heart. CLET keeps the familiar red circle and uses its existing colours to build the image. Meuh1246 photographed this sign on avenue Ledru-Rollin in Paris’s 12th arrondissement on 28 October 2017.

💡 Nerd Fact: CLET credits Florence with prompting his road-sign project. In an interview with The Florentine, he explains that ordinary road signs looked jarring to him against the city’s historic setting, leading him to make them the subject of his art.

🐨 A Koala in the Wall — By CAL in Lyon, France 🇫🇷

A metal fitting does much of the work in CAL’s little koala in Lyon. Painted ears, eyes and a body turn the fixed object into the animal’s face. In a November 2021 post, CAL jokes that the koala has eaten all the leaves.

🌱 Artist — By Pejac in Spain 🇪🇸

A black silhouette pushes a lawnmower along the base of a wall, leaving a growing strip of grass behind it. Pejac documents this work as Artist, a 2010 mural. The machine seems to create the lawn instead of cutting it, reversing an everyday task with only black paint and the wall’s existing edge.

☂️ An Umbrella Stand — By CAL in Lyon, France 🇫🇷

CAL pairs two illustrated umbrellas with the open end of a pipe in Lyon. The upright tube becomes a ready-made umbrella stand, while the red and black shapes lean against the wall behind it.

🌿 Elizabeth and Mary Linley — By Stik in London, UK 🇬🇧

Stik’s two figures reinterpret Thomas Gainsborough’s 1772 portrait of Elizabeth and Mary Linley. Painted in 2012 at 184 Court Lane in Dulwich, one sister leans toward the other while the garden supplies the greenery around them. The photograph is credited to Mary Linley in the contemporary coverage.

💡 Nerd Fact: The sisters in Gainsborough’s original painting had musical careers, represented by objects in the portrait. Dulwich Outdoor Gallery’s account explains that Stik retained their relationship while removing the costumes and musical attributes. The gallery project began with Stik and Ingrid Beazley in 2012.

🐭 A Cat Behind the Sign — By CLET in Paris, France 🇫🇷

A cat’s ears rise above the white bar while a mouse waits below. A tiny doorway turns the stripe into a hiding place, giving CLET a whole scene within one road sign. Meuh1246’s original photograph records the location as rue Charles-Fourier in Paris’s 13th arrondissement, photographed on 4 May 2015.

💡 Nerd Fact: CLET’s road-sign interventions use adhesive stickers. The French artist developed the practice while living in Florence, as described in his interview with The Florentine.

🐷 A Pig in the Plaster — By CAL in Lyon, France 🇫🇷
