✨ Night Catcher — By OAKOAK

OAKOAK added a running figure and butterfly net beneath a real wall light. Once the lamp is on, the bulb becomes the object being chased and the long shadow finishes the scene.

📖 A Reading Lamp for a Mouse — By David Zinn in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA 🇺🇸

The little reader leans against an orange lamp base, with a book open in its paws. David Zinn placed the chalk drawing on a concrete barrier beneath an existing wall light in Ann Arbor. The real lamp supplies the glow.

💡 Nerd Fact: Zinn began drawing outdoors as a break from computer-based illustration work. In his essay “Why Chalk?”, he explains that the temporary medium helped him work without the anxiety he associated with making a permanent painting.

💡 A Family After Dark — By JPS

The same wall is shown in daylight and after dark. JPS placed four small figures beneath a real lamp; when it switches on, the family stands together inside a wide circle of warm light.

💛 (fos) — By the (fos) Collective in Madrid, Spain 🇪🇸

The yellow triangle starts at a real lamp and runs across the doorway, furniture and pavement outside Rayen at 7 Calle de Lope de Vega in Madrid. The collective (fos) created this temporary, four-day installation in 2013, giving a storefront the crisp outline of a spotlight even in daylight. Look at the chair: the part outside the beam stays white.

💡 Nerd Fact: The project was created by Susana Piquer, Eleni Karpatsi and Julio Calvo. Their project page explains that fos means “light” in Greek and “melted” in Catalan. The installation used over 250 metres of yellow duct tape, painted objects and pineapples.

⚡ Bartman in Painted Neon — By Fat Cap Sprays in London, UK 🇬🇧

White lines and a haze of purple, blue and yellow make Bartman look like a neon sign on this London wall. Fat Cap Sprays painted the mask, cape and spiky hair. The wall’s rough surface remains visible through the color.

☠️ A Skull Built From Light and Shadow — By Odeith

Odeith painted highlights and deep shadows across a rounded concrete structure, using its curve to turn the entire surface into a giant skull. The masked person seated above shows the scale.

✨ Unique: The Light Within — By EL MAC, AiseBorn and Aniekan Udofia in Washington, D.C., USA 🇺🇸

Contour lines build a child’s face and hands, surrounded by an elaborate green-and-gold circle. Unique: The Light Within was painted in autumn 2024 at 2018 Shannon Place SE in Washington, D.C.. The mural gathers a soft yellow glow between the child’s palms. EL MAC painted the figure, AiseBorn the surrounding mandala, and Aniekan Udofia helped paint the clouds. 💡 Nerd Fact: The portrait grew from a photo session with children from nearby Savoy Elementary School; a girl named Unique became the model. EL MAC describes the project in this interview with East of the River.

🕯️ A Candle in Neon Pink — By David Speed in London, UK 🇬🇧

A woman bends toward a candle, its pink light spreading across her face, hands and hood. David Speed painted this mural beside the entrance at 2 Ebor Street in Shoreditch, where London Calling Blog photographed it in December 2021.
