A flooded-city selfie, milk pouring out of a painting, and a teddy bear in crocodile jaws. The ideas are absurd. The execution is completely serious.

🌊 Der Wanderer 4.0 — By Innerfields in Cologne, Germany 🇩🇪

Innerfields places Caspar David Friedrich’s solitary figure above a flooded future Cologne. He stands above a wave and a capsized ship with his phone raised. The approximately 260-square-metre mural was created in 2019 for Walls of Vision with students from Kaiserin-Theophanu-Schule and support from the Cologne art association artrmx, which organizes CityLeaks. The mural stood at Gießener Straße 85–87; CityLeaks now lists it as gone. Photo by Dieter Wundes.

💡 Art History Nerd Fact: In Friedrich’s use of the Rückenfigur, the figure is seen from behind, drawing the viewer into the landscape. The organizers linked the pose to its often unconscious return in social-media travel photos.

🐊 Crocodile with a Teddy Bear — By Nikolaj Arndt in Neustadt (Hessen), Germany 🇩🇪

Nikolaj Arndt painted this anamorphic crocodile for the 2016 Straßenmalerfestival on Marktstraße in Neustadt (Hessen). A tiny teddy bear hangs between its teeth. The flat pavement appears to open into a deep hole.

💡 Festival Nerd Fact: Arndt painted his first 3D street works at Neustadt’s inaugural street-painting festival. He returned to the same event for this crocodile in 2016.

🥛 After Vermeer’s The Milkmaid — By Carlos Mascaró in Ciutadella, Menorca, Spain 🇪🇸

Mascaró frames a small recreation of Vermeer’s The Milkmaid on the wall, then lets the painted stream escape the picture and fall to two waiting cats. The temporary intervention was made for Street Art Ciutadella in 2015 on Carrer del Roser. Local reporting shows that the same wall was later reused for another temporary festival work, so The Milkmaid is no longer there.

💡 Career Nerd Fact: Rijksmuseum curator Pieter Roelofs congratulated Mascaró on the work. That response played a key role in the Vermeer Centrum Delft’s decision to exhibit two of Mascaró’s paintings in 2024.

🍳 Southend Breakfast — By WOSKerski in Southend-on-Sea, UK 🇬🇧

WOSKerski calls this 2023 Southend City Jam mural Southend Breakfast. Art UK records the work on Southchurch Avenue, at the corner by Marks Court. Two giant hands hold a fried egg in front of purple stage curtains. The real roof and chimneys complete the scene.

💡 Festival Nerd Fact: The 2023 Southend City Jam brought together 214 artists, who painted 100 walls in three days. Organizers also built a kilometre of wall space.

🐀 Spray-Can Beast — By Gerardo Mser / emserone in Xalapa, Mexico 🇲🇽

Gerardo Mser / emserone painted this wall for MRK Crew’s 28th-anniversary gathering at Ex Fábrica de San Bruno in Xalapa in March 2026. The artist’s own post shows a snarling rat tearing through a painted hole with a giant spray can. Mser stands below it for scale.

💡 Festival Nerd Fact: Organizers announced more than 200 urban artists from across Mexico for the free two-day event, with live graffiti, rap, and breakdancing.

😗 “Overload” — By WOSKerski in London, UK 🇬🇧

Painted near Shoreditch High Street railway station, Overload shows a woman pressing both hands into her face. Her puckered lips and wide eyes sell the joke. The painted fingers make the brick look soft.

💡 Artist Nerd Fact: WOSKerski says he began painting in 1997 and describes his work as a mixture of street art and fine art with graffiti influences.

🍷 Mural in Honor of Wine — By Pablo Astrain in Pradejón, Spain 🇪🇸

Pradejón’s urban-art museum calls this 2026 work Mural en honor al vino. Street Art Cities dates it to March 19, 2026, on Calle Piscinas. The town’s official record describes it as a tribute to La Rioja’s gatherings around wine, family cellars, vineyards, and chuletillas al sarmiento.

💡 Food Nerd Fact: The chuletillas al sarmiento referenced here are lamb chops grilled over embers made from bundled vine shoots. Spain’s official tourism recipe lists only lamb, vine shoots, oil, and salt.

🕶️ “Desde adentro hacia la calle” — By DON FATO 7 in Medellín, Colombia 🇨🇴

In his own notes on the work, DON FATO 7 calls it Desde adentro hacia la calle and says it explores the relationship between private life and the street. Oversized glasses cover the face, while cream-colored forms curl across the slanted wall. It was painted for Lunes Sativo.

💡 Local Nerd Fact: Medellín’s public-library system identifies the artist as José Agudelo, better known as Fato, and says he painted one of the skylight structures at Parque Biblioteca Doce de Octubre. Graffiti Art, a Comuna 6 youth collective, also uses the surrounding walls and runs graffiti and urban-art workshops inside the library.

👊 Monkey D. Luffy — By CHEONE in Parabiago, Italy 🇮🇹

CHEONE painted Monkey D. Luffy on a corner of the Biblioteca Civica di Parabiago at Via Brisa 1. The mural was unveiled on April 6, 2025. The corner is part of the illusion, letting visitors stand behind Luffy’s stretched arm.

💡 Process Nerd Fact: The mural took approximately one week to complete. CHEONE said it was the first time he had worked this way with a masonry element; he normally uses PVC or other added materials.

🕷️ “J’aime l’araignée et j’aime l’ortie” — By AntistaK in Toulouse, France 🇫🇷

AntistaK calls the work J’aime l’araignée et j’aime l’ortie, inspired by Victor Hugo’s poem of the same name. It was painted and documented at Miroir Miroir, a temporary immersive venue at 90 Boulevard Silvio Trentin. Painted eyes stare from both palms while a many-legged headpiece rises above the face.

💡 Literary Nerd Fact: Hugo dated the poem July 1842; it later appeared as poem XXVII in Book III of Les Contemplations, published in 1856. It asks readers to spare the despised “ugly beast” and “bad weed”; their last word is “Love!”

🦁 Lion Statue, Lioness and Cub — By Nikolaj Arndt in Wilhelmshaven, Germany 🇩🇪

Arndt created this pavement illusion for the 2018 International StreetArt Festival. A pre-event post from Unterwegs announced that he would create a 3D work directly outside the shop at Parkstraße 2. The lion statue, lioness, cub, pedestal, cracks, and shadows are all paint.

💡 Competition Nerd Fact: The festival lists Arndt as its 2018 winner in 3D art—his third first-place finish in Wilhelmshaven, after wins in 2012 and 2013.

🦧 Electrified Ape in Shades — By Jean Hekte in Ecatepec de Morelos, Mexico 🇲🇽

StreetArtPedia credits this purple ape to Jean Hekte and places it in Ecatepec de Morelos. Orange glasses, a cigar, a green jacket, and enough teeth for several mouths fill the wall. Green smoke curls around the portrait.

💡 Primate Nerd Fact: Gorillas have 32 teeth, and orangutans do too—the same number as an adult human.
