🍂 Kora Mural — Designed by Bruno Althamer in Warsaw, Poland 🇵🇱

At Nowy Świat 18/20, behind Branicki Palace, Bruno Neuhamer, then credited as Bruno Althamer, designed the portrait of Polish singer Kora around a real horse chestnut, so its branches, blossoms, and leaves become her changing hair. Anna Eichler’s contemporary post credits the painting team as Eichler, Bruno Althamer, and Miłka Macheta, with Althamer responsible for the design.

💡 Nerd Fact: In December 2018, Wysokie Obcasy quoted Althamer saying that the horse chestnut stood so close to the wall that it had to become part of the work. 🚌 “Wrecked Bus” — By Odeith in Vila Franca de Xira, Portugal 🇵🇹

In these before-and-after views, Odeith turns an empty concrete block into a wrecked bus. The corners, floor, openings, and painted shadow give the illusion its depth.

💡 Nerd Fact: In his original August 2019 reveal, Odeith called the work a wrecked bus. He later said it took roughly ten hours and 30 spray cans, after he first arrived without an idea and returned the next day. Read his account of the process.

🌈 “ColorArz” — By Manuel Marotto in Arzachena, Sardinia, Italy 🇮🇹

Rainbow bands run up the Santa Lucia staircase toward the church. The temporary 2019 installation, ColorArz, was designed by Manuel Marotto with architect Marilena Pattitoni and made with natural pigments.

💡 Nerd Fact: The staircase does not keep one permanent design. Arzachena’s official tourism site lists Marotto’s ColorArz as the 2019 installation in a series that returns with different artists and themes. Explore the project’s chronology.

🦁 Mane Problem — By David Zinn 🇺🇸

A real tuft of dry grass becomes the mane of Zinn’s tiny sidewalk lion, which holds Nathan in one paw. Zinn’s own caption says Nathan removed the thorn but could not do anything about the mane problem.

💡 Nerd Fact: Zinn calls his method “ephemeral pareidolic anamorphosis.” His temporary street drawings are improvised on location and made entirely with chalk, charcoal, and found objects. Read his description of the method.

👁️ The Eye — By Näutil in Siouville-Hague, France 🇫🇷

A blue eye stretches across the seaward face of a concrete bunker. Näutil uses the long horizontal structure as an eyelid facing the beach and sea.

💡 Nerd Fact: Näutil’s own project page dates the work to 2014 and describes the eye as a meeting between the painted bunker and the moving sea. He later explained that the pupil reflected the silhouette of the Flamanville nuclear plant and that he deliberately closed the eye in 2016.

🌳 “Family Tree” — By Falko One in Riebeek West, South Africa 🇿🇦

Painted arms grow from the real trunk and reach across the broken white wall toward smaller hands on the far side.

💡 Nerd Fact: Family Tree was part of Falko One’s 2020 After Life solo exhibition with Solo Studios. A contemporary review explains that the image changed with the viewer’s position: either hand, or both, could appear to hold the real tree. Read the review.

🐾 A Helping Paw — Stencil by Trevor Coles in Nanaimo, Canada 🇨🇦

Trevor Coles’s stencil shows a child sitting with his head down. Erika Lopez’s dog Carlos stood up and rested one paw on the painted child’s upper arm, making it look as if he were comforting him.

💡 Nerd Fact: Coles’s professional profile identifies graphic design as his daytime work and street art as his nighttime practice; it also lists concept art and illustration among his skills. View the artist’s profile.

💤 Mud Maid — By Sue and Pete Hill at the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall, England 🇬🇧

Mud Maid sleeps along Woodland Walk at the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall. Ivy covers her body, moss grows across her face, and montbretia has overtaken the wood sedge originally planted as hair. The figure keeps changing as the plants grow through the seasons.

💡 Nerd Fact: The sculpture almost became a mermaid. Sue Hill explains that the early plan included a fish-like tail, but the name “Mud Maid” stuck while the design was still evolving. Read the sculptors’ account.

🌾 “Pielenie” — By Jakub “Biko” Bitka in Szczecin, Poland 🇵🇱

A kneeling figure nearly disappears inside grasses, flowers, and seed heads painted across the apartment wall. Bitka titled the 2021 mural Pielenie, Polish for “weeding,” and wrote about watching the woman lose herself in the garden among the plants.

💡 Nerd Fact: The mural stands at Dębogórska 10 and was proposed by Dom Kultury Skolwin, then financed through Szczecin’s municipal budget. Local coverage documented its completion in 2021.

🌼 “Dandelion” — By Michael Pederson in Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺

A tiny pair of museum barriers and a “Please Do Not Touch” sign turn one dandelion growing through the pavement into a museum exhibit. Artsy identifies the work as Dandelion, and it also appears in Pederson’s official Plants portfolio.

💡 Nerd Fact: Pederson also works under the name Miguel Marquez Outside. His installations mimic official city signs and museum labels closely enough to look legitimate at first glance. Colossal documents the method.

⚖️ Finding a Good Balance in Life — By Sasha Korban in Tbilisi, Georgia 🇬🇪

A young woman stands above a tower of chairs that seems to be collapsing beneath her. Korban described the chairs as a metaphor for the world’s chaos and the figure as a search for inner harmony. Organized by Truth Hounds, the mural can be found at Elektrowerk, 2 Beri Gabriel Salosi I Turn.

💡 Nerd Fact: Truth Hounds, which Korban credited as the project’s organizer, is a nonprofit organization. Since 2014 it has documented and investigated international crimes and serious human-rights violations during armed conflicts in Ukraine and other parts of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. 🎣 “Fisherman” — By Justin Bateman in Chiang Mai, Thailand 🇹🇭

Black, gray, cream, and brown stones form a weathered face, beard, and cap without paint. Every stone lies loose on the ground. Bateman identified the work as Fisherman, made from found stones in Chiang Mai in 2021, and said it took three days to complete.

💡 Nerd Fact: Bateman deliberately dismantles his pebble portraits after photographing them and returns the stones to their “original disorder.” He connects that ritual to the impermanence of Tibetan sand mandalas. Read the artist interview.
