Banksy lets the street do part of the work

A corrugated-metal sheet becomes a boat, a bus shelter becomes a dance floor, and a bare tree gets its canopy back. These twelve works show Banksy treating walls, objects and architecture as materials—not just places to leave an image.

⛵ “We’re All in the Same Boat” — By Banksy in Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, England 🇬🇧

Three children in paper hats stand on a bridge wall above the Landspring Drain in Nicholas Everitt Park, where a corrugated-metal sheet originally supplied the hull and the real water completed the boat. The metal was later removed because it was obstructing the drain. The mural was among the works Banksy created for his 2021 seaside “Spraycation”.

🦓 Washing Zebra Stripes — By Banksy in Mali 🇲🇱

A woman hangs a zebra’s missing black stripes on a washing line while the now-white animal waits beside her. Commonly called Washing Zebra Stripes, it was part of Banksy’s Mali project in early 2009. Contemporary reporting said the works stretched from Bamako to Timbuktu but that their precise locations had not been publicised.

💡 Nerd Fact: A Hessink’s auction catalogue dates the Mali works to January 2009, identifies this mural as being in Timbuktu and says the original was destroyed. Contemporary reporting records that drawings and photographs from the project were shown at Banksy versus Bristol Museum.

🌳 Hornsey Road Tree Mural — By Banksy in London, England 🇬🇧

At Christie Court on Hornsey Road, a stencilled figure with a pressure washer stands below a blast of green paint. From the intended angle, the paint lines up behind the pollarded cherry tree and restores its missing canopy. Banksy confirmed the work on 18 March 2024.

💡 Nerd Fact: The tree was already 40–50 years old and in declining health. The Guardian reported that Islington Council had pollarded it to help keep it alive and expected the crown to grow again.

🛒 Falling Shopper — By Banksy in Mayfair, London, England 🇬🇧

A woman and her trolley plunge down the wall above Bruton Lane in Mayfair. Commonly known as both Falling Shopper and Shop Till You Drop, the work is painted around seven metres above street level. The height turns its consumerist metaphor into a physically convincing freefall.

🌸 Cameraman and Flower — By Banksy in Park City, Utah, USA 🇺🇸

At 402 Main Street, a kneeling cameraman points his lens at the pink flower he is holding. The image suggests that documenting the scene has also damaged it: the flower is already uprooted.

💡 Nerd Fact: Banksy placed several works around Park City when Exit Through the Gift Shop premiered at Sundance in 2010. Sundance Institute revisited the three surviving Park City pieces, including this one outside Java Cow. In March 2026, Park Record reported that it remained protected behind glass and a heavy frame.

💄 “Valentine’s Day Mascara” — By Banksy in Margate, England 🇬🇧

At its original site on Park Place in Margate, a 1950s-style housewife with a swollen eye and missing tooth appeared to be pushing a man into a real abandoned chest freezer. The appliance completed the physical scene, while her injuries pointed directly to domestic abuse.

💡 Nerd Fact: Banksy titled and confirmed the work on 14 February 2023. The real freezer was removed by the council only hours later so it could be made safe. The conserved work is now displayed at The WonderWorks, according to Visit Thanet.

🛝 Watchtower Swing — By Banksy in Gaza, Palestine 🇵🇸

Children orbit a painted military watchtower on swing chains, turning a symbol of surveillance into the central column of a fairground ride. Banksy unveiled the mural in February 2015 as part of a group of works created in Gaza.

💡 Nerd Fact: Banksy revealed the Gaza works through a mock travel film titled Make This the Year YOU Discover a New Destination rather than through a conventional exhibition. The Guardian described its deliberately upbeat tourism framing, which makes the reality surrounding this invented playground even sharper.

🏖️ Child with Sandcastle — By Banksy in Lowestoft, England 🇬🇧

Outside the former Lowestoft Electrical building near London Road North and Regent Road, a stencilled child appears to lever up the pavement with a crowbar. A real lifted slab and a sandcastle complete the illusion that the beach was hiding directly beneath the street.

💡 Nerd Fact: The mural formed part of Banksy’s 2021 seaside project. The building owner removed the wall section that November, and it was later reported sold to a private buyer.

💃 Dancing Couple and Accordion Player — By Banksy in Great Yarmouth, England 🇬🇧

At a bus shelter on Admiralty Road, the roof becomes the floor of a dance hall. Two dancers and a seated accordion player appear to perform above the people waiting below.

💡 Nerd Fact: Banksy confirmed the mural in his A Great British Spraycation video on 13 August 2021. Great Yarmouth Borough Council still counted the Admiralty Road mural among the borough’s two Spraycation works in May 2026.

🏴 Flag-Bearer Sculpture — By Banksy at Waterloo Place in London, England 🇬🇧

A suited figure steps from a plinth while the large flag he carries blows across his face. Installed on a traffic island at Waterloo Place, close to monuments to Edward VII, Florence Nightingale and the Crimean War, the flag supplies both movement and obstruction: what he carries forward also blocks his view.

💡 Nerd Fact: Banksy confirmed the work on 30 April 2026 with footage of its overnight installation. The Associated Press reported that it had appeared early the previous morning. By August 2026, Westminster City Council had spent almost £60,000 on barriers, security and administration.

🌅 “Morning is Broken” — By Banksy in Herne Bay, England 🇬🇧

At Blacksole Farm on Margate Road, a child and cat pulled apart corrugated metal sheets as if they were bedroom curtains, briefly turning a derelict farmhouse into a morning scene.

💡 Nerd Fact: Banksy revealed Morning is Broken on 15 March 2023 in a three-photo post whose final image showed the wall already demolished. The Guardian reported that demolition had begun the previous day and that the contractors had not known it was a Banksy.

🧽 Cave Painting Removal — By Banksy in London, England 🇬🇧

A maintenance worker pressure-washes prehistoric figures from the wall. The stencil asks one clean visual question: who decides which marks are heritage and which are erased?

💡 Nerd Fact: Banksy made the work for the Cans Festival, staged from 3–5 May 2008 inside Leake Street tunnel beneath Waterloo station. Contemporary coverage records that Banksy had Eurostar’s permission and brought together around 40 stencil artists for the bank-holiday event.
