Anglerfish Trap: Amazing Street Art By SKURK!

By Vidar

Norway-based street artist Skurk has done quite a few impressive murals, but this time an art collective called BART gave him quite a challenging task – a building wall with a staircase and light bulbs. Skurk found a perfect solution.

He used the lamps to create a nightmarish anglerfish, a bony sea creature famous for a luminescent ‘antenna’ on its head. Anglerfish use this organ to lure their prey in dark water environments. Also, females use it to attract males for mating. “Those lamps asked for some mean incorporation,” Skurk said.

A striking street art mural by SKURK at Rå Skole in Bergen, Norway, creatively incorporates architectural features into its design. The mural depicts an anglerfish, with its body painted along the side of a white building, and a staircase cleverly forming the fish's mouth and teeth. A streetlight at the top of the staircase doubles as the anglerfish's glowing lure. The artwork is equally impactful during the day, showcasing its detailed black-and-white stippling technique, and at night, when the illuminated light transforms the mural into a vivid and dynamic scene. This masterpiece exemplifies the seamless blending of art and architecture.
