These buildings look odd for a reason
A few are real structures in unlikely places. The rest are plain walls and houses that artists reshaped with paint (and, in Madrid, with plants), usually working around the real windows, corners and roofs.

🦅 Jatayu — By Rajiv Anchal in Chadayamangalam, Kerala, India 🇮🇳
A stone eagle the size of a building lies across a hilltop at Jatayu Earth’s Center in Chadayamangalam, and the small visitor on its wing gives away the scale. Kerala Tourism measures it at 200 feet long, 150 feet wide and 70 feet high.
💡 Nerd Fact: The bird is also a building. Jatayu Earth’s Center says the sculpture houses a 6D theater about Jatayu’s battle with Ravana, though the theater and the museum are still under construction.

🦸 “Raising the Barn” — By JPS in Lohr am Main, Germany 🇩🇪
The barn and the stone wall are real; only Superman, fist up against the timber, is painted. JPS posted it as “Raising the barn” in May 2020, and a blog post from the same week places it in Lohr am Main.
💡 Nerd Fact: Lifting heavy things is Superman’s oldest move. The cover of Action Comics #1, his 1938 debut, shows him raising a car over his head.

🌿 Vertical Garden — By Patrick Blanc in Madrid, Spain 🇪🇸
Instead of paint, the wall beside CaixaForum Madrid is covered in living plants, and the people at its base look tiny. CaixaForum puts the garden at 460 square meters, and the World Green Infrastructure Network counts more than 15,000 plantings.
💡 Nerd Fact: There is no soil. According to CaixaForum, five pipe structures hold the roots, water is fed in at three heights, and about half of it is recycled.

🏢 Corner Illusion — By Shozy in Solnechnodolsk, Russia 🇷🇺
Before and after: the flat corner of a panel block now seems to sprout extra rooms and stacked windows. The project listing dates the 320-square-meter wall at Solnechny Boulevard 10 to 2021, and Colossal points out that the whole construction lies flat on the corner walls.
💡 Nerd Fact: The same listing says the wall took 12 days and that a real air conditioner on it was worked into the illusion.

The hut sits in a notch of bare rock with nothing around it but cliff. Cortina’s via ferrata guide places the former military shelter at Forcella Padeon, 2,760 meters up, and dates it to 1915.
💡 Nerd Fact: According to the Alpini association, the only ways up are the Ivano Dibona via ferrata or a helicopter, and the Regole d’Ampezzo donated all the timber for the 2022 restoration.

🌊 “The Distance from the Sea to Certainty” — By Medianeras in Caorle, Italy 🇮🇹
Red and orange bands wrap the building’s corners, chimney and windows, and the young face only comes together from one spot on the street. In their post about the work, Medianeras describe it as a wave of color linking the figure to Caorle’s coast; it was painted for the 2026 Caorle Sea Festival. Il Nordest lists it under its Italian title, “La distanza dal mare alla certezza,” on the Hotel Splendid.
💡 Name Fact: In Spanish, medianeras are the walls shared by neighboring buildings. The duo, Argentine artists Vanesa Galdeano and Anali Chanquia, took their name from them.
