A dandelion becomes a dragon-safe birthday candle. A metal ring becomes Maggie Simpson’s pacifier. Sluggo opens a dig site in the pavement, while an apartment block becomes a cello. Each work depends on something that was already there.

🐉 Dragon and Mouse from “Anamorphoses” — By Braga Last1 in Le Pont-de-Claix, France 🇫🇷

A blue dragon fills one wall while a mouse peers from a nearby utility box. The pair belongs to Anamorphoses, Braga Last1’s multi-scene project for the 2023 Street Art Fest Grenoble-Alpes at Place Michel Couëtoux.

💡 Nerd Fact: The dragon and mouse are two of several scenes in the project. The festival catalogue says the full set ranges from ancient Egypt to Tolkien’s mythology.

🎨 História da Arte — Anonymous Street Graffiti in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 🇧🇷

Six cats turn six famous names into quick visual jokes: Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Monet, Pollock, Picasso, and Dalí. The Portuguese heading means “History of Art.” An archived, geotagged photograph by Maris Stella WOZ, taken in June 2011, places the wall in Vila Isabel, Rio de Janeiro. No reliable artist credit has been found.

💡 Nerd Fact: The Pollock cat evokes Pollock’s drip paintings. MoMA records that he laid canvases on the floor and applied enamel paint with sticks, stiffened brushes, pierced cans, and even a turkey baster.

🏚️ “Mucho peso pa’ tan poca vivienda” — By Emi Pintor in Campos del Río, Spain 🇪🇸

A tired figure bends beneath a tiny house strapped to his back, chained to two iron balls. In his April 2026 post, Emi Pintor says the work was painted by hand in Campos del Río, Murcia. The colloquial title means roughly “Too much weight for such a small home.”

💡 Nerd Fact: Article 47 of Spain’s Constitution recognizes the right to decent and adequate housing and directs public authorities to regulate land use in the public interest to prevent speculation.

🧗 A Child on the Ledge — By Marek LOONEY Rybowski in Gdynia, Poland 🇵🇱

The boy’s hands meet the tunnel’s real concrete edge, so he appears to hang above the passage. A butterfly is painted nearby. Rybowski’s original post says it is one section of a 2019 mural in the underpass between Chabrowa and Kartuska streets. The City of Gdynia says the resident-backed project was designed around nature, sport, recreation, and time outdoors.

💡 Nerd Fact: The mural was one element of a participatory-budget package backed by more than 2,700 votes. According to the City of Gdynia, the same project also provided a public defibrillator and an outdoor gym.

🎂 Clarence and His Flameless Birthday Cake — By David Zinn, Location Unknown 🌍

David Zinn’s original reel calls this “the emergence of Clarence and his flameless birthday cake.” A real dandelion stands in for the candle flame.

💡 Nerd Fact: A dandelion head is not a single flower. Kew Gardens describes it as a cluster of many small florets that later produce the familiar seed head.

🦌 “Oryx Going Ahead” — By Martín Ron in Doha, Qatar 🇶🇦

At Building 40 in Katara Cultural Village, an Arabian oryx appears to break through the wall. Argentina’s embassy in Qatar identifies the 11-metre-tall mural as Oryx Going Ahead, with Doha’s skyline behind the animal and a map of Qatar on its forehead. In his original post, Ron said the oryx represented the pride of Qatar’s people.

💡 Nerd Fact: In 2011, the Arabian oryx became the first species once classed as Extinct in the Wild to improve by three IUCN Red List categories, reaching Vulnerable after captive breeding and reintroduction.

🍼 Maggie Simpson — By EFIX, Location Unknown 🌍

A rusty metal ring fixed to a wall becomes Maggie Simpson’s pacifier. EFIX published the intervention in March 2020 but did not identify its location. EFIX added Maggie around the existing fitting, leaving the ring itself untouched.

💡 Nerd Fact: Maggie Simpson was named after Matt Groening’s sister. Groening recalled that the real Maggie wore a blue sleep suit and constantly sucked a pacifier as a small child.

👽 Sluggo’s Sidewalk Dig — By David Zinn, Location Unknown 🌍

Zinn’s recurring green monster Sluggo stands in an imaginary excavation with a magnifying glass; an oversized bone, shovel, and stones lie nearby. The scene is drawn on flat pavement.

💡 Nerd Fact: Sluggo began as an unsuccessful drawing of a dancing child. In a 2018 interview, Zinn recalled that the head came out eggplant-shaped, with no good place for the eyes. Moving them above the head turned the mistake into a new character.

🎻 “A Violonchelista de Fene” — By SFHIR in Fene, Spain 🇪🇸

SFHIR uses the apartment block’s narrow stairwell as the cello’s neck, while the musician wraps around the lower walls. The Municipality of Fene says the stairwell lights illuminate the instrument after dark. The 2023 mural stands at Rúa da Fraga 64.

💡 Nerd Fact: Street Art Cities voters chose it as the 2023 Best Mural of the World. Spain’s postal service later reproduced the mural on a commemorative stamp issued on 5 November 2024.

🌳 “Der Schwebende Baum” (The Floating Tree) — By Daniel Siering & Mario Shu in Potsdam, Germany 🇩🇪

For Der Schwebende Baum, the artists wrapped part of the trunk in plastic sheeting and spray-painted the landscape hidden behind it. A video of the work shows the middle section disappear from one viewpoint and reappear as the camera moves.

💡 Nerd Fact: Before this project, Siering painted utility structures for the Potsdam company ART-EFX. A 2011 report said the company had already completed about 600 works in Brandenburg alone.

👻 “Les fleurs sont périssables” — By OAKOAK in Le Locle, Switzerland 🇨🇭

Exomusée calls the little ghost Spooky Louis and dates the work to 2021. The title, Les fleurs sont périssables, is translated there as “Flowers die.” He holds a real bouquet on the wall at Grande-Rue 26, facing Rue de la Gare.

💡 Nerd Fact: The title echoes a line from Jacques Brel’s song Les Bonbons. Exomusée’s official backstory adds another French chanson reference when Spooky Louis calls for Aline, echoing Christophe’s 1965 hit.

🧵 “Le fil rouge” — By ENDER in Paris, France 🇫🇷

On Rue Villiers-de-L’Isle-Adam, one of ENDER’s tiny P’tits Zoms pulls red thread across a real vertical crack. In the artist’s original post for Le fil rouge, he writes that some wounds are difficult to sew up but can become beautiful scars with time.

💡 Language Fact: In French, le fil rouge also means the central idea around which a text or speech is organized. The title works both ways.
