Mon Devane’s Stunning Picasso-Inspired Mural: Unveiling ‘Niña con barco, Leive’ in Málaga

Mon Devane, a prominent Spanish street artist, recently transformed a building facade in El Boquetillo, Fuengirola, Málaga, into a vibrant mural that pays homage to both Picasso and his own daughter, Leive.

The mural, titled “Niña con barco” or “Girl with Boat,” holds a special place in Devane’s heart, and it signifies the beginning of a new era for the neighborhood.

Devane was the first artist invited by the Fuengirola City Council to create an artwork for the neighborhood. His work marks the start of a project aimed at turning the area into a public urban art museum. And what better way to kickstart this initiative than with a mural that beautifully merges personal inspiration and cultural reverence!

In a comment about his work, Devane shared that he was asked to create a nautical-themed mural. For inspiration, he turned to the works of Malaga’s own Pablo Picasso, specifically Picasso’s piece “Niña con barco (Maya),” which portrays Picasso’s daughter playing with an orange boat. After finding this artwork, Devane decided to create his personal interpretation of it, embedding his unique style into the composition.

The result is a captivating mural that pays homage to Picasso while also showcasing Devane’s distinctive artistic approach. The model for this important piece was none other than Devane’s own daughter, Leive, making the mural not only an artistic masterpiece but also a personal tribute.

The “Niña con barco, Leive” is more than just a mural; it’s a testament to the transformative power of street art, a tribute to one of the greatest artists of all time, and a heartfelt expression of a father’s love for his daughter.
